Improved Neighborhood Parks
Parks are the lungs and living rooms of our neighborhoods. While Phoenix is the fifth largest US city, it ranks 83rd for Parks according to the Trust for Public Land. Every Phoenician in every neighborhood deserves a safe, shaded park within walking distance of home. On the Phoenix City Council, Ed will:
Modernize and upgrade existing parks meet our changing climate and resident desires by:
Ensure that every Phoenix resident lives within a 10-minute walk of a park or open space by:
Adding new splash pads, cooling stations, and evening lighting
Upgrading playgrounds with shade canopies and play surfaces that stay cool, even in the summer heat
Expanding the tree canopy and adding shaded seating, prioritizing low-income neighborhoods
Converting asphalt pads and unused space into high-quality pickleball courts.
Creating “pocket parks” with small plazas and shaded playgrounds on underused city property
Partner with local school districts to open school playgrounds on weekends and holiday breaks
Opening municipal golf course and select streets for monthly safe, community use day
