       MEET ED

Ed Hermes is a father, husband, lawyer, and community activist who lives in midtown Phoenix with his wife Noriana and two daughters, Penélope and Valentina.

Ed’s always believed that with hard work and persistence anything is possible. He grew up on a farm in rural Illinois and moved to Arizona as a kid. While his parents applied for subsidized housing, he was on free and reduced lunch. When his school announced a lunch price increase, he organized a boycott and forced them to lower prices. He eventually worked side jobs to put himself through ASU where his penchant for activism never left - fighting to lower textbook prices for college students while student representative on the Arizona Board of Regents.

After working his way through law school, Ed moved to midtown Phoenix in 2013 and started a family. As an attorney, he’s provided free representation to tenants facing eviction and successfully sued Joe Arpaio for civil rights violations. He ran and won a seat on the Osborn Elementary School District Board in 2020 to fight for our kids. When Tom Horne attacked LGBTQ+ students and tried to siphon money from public schools into private schools where parents can spend our tax dollars on $16,000 cellos and lavish vacations, Ed fought back.

Always an advocate for his community, Ed wanted to improve his neighborhood by building sidewalks, cleaning up the local park, and improving trash pick up, but when the city told him it wasn’t possible, he ran for neighborhood association president, showed up at community meetings, and made it happen. We are too often told that city government is slow and doesn’t accomplish anything. City government hasn’t met Ed.

On the City Council, Ed will get things done for us and make Phoenix a better, more livable place. He’ll tackle the housing crisis head on by building more housing and establishing protections for tenants facing eviction. He’ll make our city more sustainable by expanding Phoenix’s cool pavement program and planting 1,000 trees in District 4. He’ll fight for families by expanding after school and preschool programs.

Ed Hermes has a passion for our city and the experience and willpower to get results. Ed believes that YES, we can make our city safer. YES, we can improve our streets, parks, and public transit. YES, we can make housing more affordable and strengthen public schools.

YES TO ACTION. YES TO RESULTS.
