ED HERMES FOR PHOENIX
City Council District 4
Strong Schools, Public Education, & Workforce Development
As a member of the Osborn Elementary School District Board, Ed has been a champion for public schools - winning pay increases for our teachers, expanding preschool programs, and fighting cuts from the Trump Administration. Ed knows that schools are the anchors of the community and ensuring quality public schools is essential for families to be able to grow in Phoenix with confidence. On the city council, Ed will advocate for our schools by:
Expanding Phoenix After Care - a city afterschool program to ensure youth have a safe place to be after school
Establish “Phoenix PRE” a new city program to offer preschool to Phoenix residents, modeled after Tempe’s existing program, co-located in public school sites to support 3 and 4 year olds
Partner with local schools to open school playgrounds as community parks on weekends and during school breaks
Improve city infrastructure near schools so that students can walk, bike, or take the bus to school safely
Expand city partnerships with local school districts to provide students access to apprenticeships, community colleges, and quality jobs
