ED HERMES FOR PHOENIX
City Council District 4
Fast & Accessible Transit
Transportation should be fast, reliable, and serve everyone. Around a third of Phoenicians don’t drive, either due to age, income, or disability. Our public transportation infrastructure must meet their needs. Phoenix deserves a fast, accessible, and reliable transit system—supported by safe, shaded, and walkable streets in connected neighborhoods. Ed takes the bus and light rail every day to get around the city, so he knows first hand what’s needed to improve our transit system:
Make all bus and light rail service fee for youth 18 and under and seniors 65 and over
Extend light rail hours to 2am on weekends, restoring pre-pandemic service
Improve frequency of buses and light rail, with trains arriving at least every 10 minutes before 9pm because no one should have to wait longer than that in the summer heat
Improve signal priority to light rail trains so they run faster and more reliably
Install better shading at light rail and bus stops
Finish the high speed train between Phoenix and Tucson to connect our state’s two largest cities
Restore Amtrak service to Phoenix
Improves crosswalks, sidewalks, and street lighting to make getting home and to transit stops safer
